According to Inside the Games, "Fernando Aguerre, the President of the International Surfing Association (ISA), has confirmed that the governing body has submitted an application for membership of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC)."
Aguerre made his announcement at a round table event at the World Surfing Games in Biarritz saying, "Last week we filed for membership of the IPC."
The ISA World Adaptive Surfing Championships (WASC) has had a successful two years with the second annual WASC bringing together 77 athletes from 21 countries along with a classification system and rulebook developed by an advisory board including both athletes and experts.
The next step in this progression is inclusion into the Paralympic Games, and with this submission the ISA continues to push the growth of the sport closer to that goal.
"It is a complex issue but we have people from the Paralympic movement helping us and I think we will most likely be in the 2024 Games," Aguerre said.
